I am Shade Kings Oyewusi. I'm a Gospel music minister, singer songwriter, Artiste, Pastor’s wife, Mum and an educator. I am happily married to Pastor Niyi Oyewusi and reside in Canada with my family

How did you get saved?

I got saved first as a young growing girl around 8 years old but then I didn’t  have the full understanding of  what I was doing but I remained a good church girl. After then in my early youth I consciously got saved in a in a youth meeting in the year 1990.

You are a music minister, how did this talent come to light?

This talent came to light while I was in the university back then in Sokoto state. I belong to the NIFES fellowship, I was in the choir and in another band called Jesus Train. I started ministering powerfully and I was made the Choir coordinator of NIFES fellowship back then. I released my first Album titled: Touch me Lord and it was the hit in the university back then. Ever since after university days, I’ve been a music minister. 

Did you ever at any point feel like you were not good enough?

Yes, you know in life there are times when you will feel the ups and downs. There were times when I felt down but thank God for my able Pastors and friends that the Lord has surround me with who has believed in me and fanned to flame this gift in me with Invitations, prayers and words of encouragement. I have great friends and family who would always tell me that I’m going to go paces with this talent. Most importantly, I encouraged myself in the lord through the Holy spirit in me and the support of my parents and siblings I continued to move on. 

How would you describe your music genre or style?

My music genre is Gospel, R&B, Afrobeat style of music but I am boxed in to one category as I am versatile.

Whats your creative process like?

My creative process was a natural one. The talent is natural and so I just sing as led by the Holy spirit. I get my songs mostly in the place of being alone with God. I listen to many gospel artistes and mentors and have been on many choirs and bands. This helped me build up my confidence and talent.

Away from music, what else do you get up to?

Away from music I am a teacher of the word and I am also a licensed Canadian teacher. I love travelling, cooking with my son and family movie time. 

How long have you been singing?

I have been singing since I was about 8 years old.

What's your philosophy about life and what has been the highlight in your life that is greatly instrumental in your life as a Christian?

My philosophy about life as a Christian is that Christianity is not just going to church on Sundays, but it is a lifestyle that we need to live daily. 

Who do you look up to in the music industry?

I look up to Tasha Cobbs , Panaam Percy Paul, Cece Winans,  Sinach and Ada.

How would you describe the music industry as a gospel artist and what could be done better?

The music industry is amazing, and the diversity of singers are superb. One thing that can be done better is that the gospel singers in the music industry should not strive to be like the world.

Which do you consider the best song you’ve released so far and why?

Miracle Worker is my favorite song that I have released so far because it can be sang anywhere at any time and its’ universal. It is also a very powerful song. 

Do you have any new project we should look out for?

Yes, stay tuned for something great.

Be consistent, don’t give up and keep persevering through all the hard work because it will pay off in the end if you don’t faint. Consistency is very important put your trust in God.

My name is De-Ola, I'm a Gospel Music Artiste . I am married with three beautiful children, I was born into the family of five siblings and I'm the fourth born.

How did you get saved?

I got saved while I was on campus, I came from a Muslim background and I gave my life to Christ in my third year.

 You are a Gospel  Artiste , how did this talent come to light?

I was singing even before I gave my life to Christ, My father sings very well, my Grandma sang too, before she died,a very talented singer I must say.

Did you ever at any point feel like you were not good enough at any point in your musical career?

There is no time I ever felt like giving up in ministry ,one thing I've been able to do for my self is to know that there is no success story without a past, I see music as a journey that needs focus and the ability to keep working in the path God has chosen, there won't ever be a day of regret even though there are different challenges but your connviction keeps you moving on.

How would you describe your music genre or style?

I do not sing a particular genre of song, be it raggae, Yoruba. God  has blessed me in that way.

These songs come mostly in the place of prayer and worship.

Away from music what else do you get up to?

I work too, I'm an MD of an Engineering company, I really do not only sing but i also work.

How long have you been singing?

I've been singing in the choir right from school, almost fifteen years now.

What is your philosophy of life and what is the highlight of your life that has been greatly instrumental in your life as a Christian?

I believe so much in God, that if the lord is on your side you can be anything.

Life is a fleet and we are here to live purpose.

Who do you look up to in the Music industry?

I look up to Sinach alot, because she is one of those ministers that inspired me to do much when I joined this ministry.

How would you describe the Music industry as a Gospel Artiste and what can we do  do better?

Music ministry is really thriving now, I can look back and tell this was not where we were five years back and this is not where we will be five years coming, even the most secular guys know that these guys are coming and they are coming strong.

So tell us, which do you consider the best song you’ve released so far and why?

A lot of times I've been asked this question and it's difficult to say this, If you listen to my song then everything is a huge blessing, so I really can't tell which one of these is my best right now, though there is a new release soon and I'm thinking this is going to be one of the best but the truth is I really don't have a best song amongst my songs ,everything has been beautiful

You released a new song, "BREATH" on your birthday last month. Do you have any new project we should look out for?

Definitely!

I've been working on a concert but the covid-19 pandemic held us back, just waiting on the right time to launch.

I got saved by personal conviction after going through tough times.

My talent came to light through my active participation in church activities.

At the very beginning I always knew i was a star that the world was yet to see.

 How would you describe your music genre or style?

I would describe my music genre and style like a pizza with a mix of various contemporary genres with a unique appeal that tells a different story.

What's your creative process like?

My creative process comes from life’s experiences, challenges of contemporary times, and deep revelation of God’s word.

Away from music what else do you get up to?

Away from music I get up to living life doing my bit in contributing to society and chasing my other passions.

How long have  you been singing?

I’ve been singing for over ten years, but professionally I’ve sang for three years now.

What's your philosophy of life and what has been the highlight of your life that has been greatly instrumental in your life as a Christian?

My philosophy has always been to strive for what I believe in, set goals and I can achieve them. The highlight of my life was in 2008 when I got admitted into the university and my Dad who was my supposed sponsor had a stroke which got him bedridden and I lost hope on how to carry on through life and school, but God showed up in ways I couldn’t explain to wipe my tears away. I went through school like a king. My whole perspective about God changed and that was my turning point in faith as a Christian.

 Who do you look up to in the music industry?

I look up to several inspiring figures in the Gospel music community, but now  I’m a whole new star and the Holy Spirit inspires me more.

 How would you describe the music industry as a gospel artist and what could be don better?

I would describe the Gospel Music Industry as a growing one that needs tremendous support from the church for it’s propagation.

Which do you consider the best song you have released so far and why?

I would consider “JARA” as the best song I’ve ever released judging by it’s success rate and global acceptance.

 Do you have any new projects we should look out for?*

I am currently working on an 

extended play project (EP) coming out later this year which the world should look out for.

My message to fans out there: the best of me is yet to come, keep the love and support coming. To young aspiring Gospel musicians out there: it is only what you do for God that lasts forever, every other thing fades with the passage of time, stick to the path.

DEALING WITH JEALOUSY.

The English Dictionary defines jealousy as the feeling of envy towards another.

This trait could be very destructive and consuming. The Bible warns against the feeling of jealousy, though it is almost inevitable as humans but knowing what jealousy is and how to cope with it is something we should learn in order to maintain a healthier relationship with our friends, family and relationships.

Although it is normal to desire to be in successful places at different levels of our lives, but to allow oneself get consumed by such a distressing and negative emotion is damaging.

In your attempt to learn more about jealousy and what triggers the feeling, you have to find out more about its most basic categories which includes:

The healthy jealousy : this is  not considered to be harmful as it is not difficult to deal with and overcome because it is only mild and occasional .

The destructive jealousy: this is something we should avoid as it makes one feel jealous in an intense irrational and frequent manner even the Bible condemns this type of jealousy in James 3:14-16 which says But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. [James 3] This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. [James 3]For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.

If we must live a life of utmost satisfaction then we have to learn to control and deal with this emotion.

Here are a few tips  that help us deal with jealousy;

1. Get clear on what living with a purpose means to you. Eccl 3:1: Sometimes, we catch ourselves living each day as it comes without plans or strategies to make the day count and this makes us get envious cause we get idle and in turn dwell on the success of others without achieving our own goals. It is very wrong to live each day without a clearer understanding of what your purpose is. Find out who you truly are and work hard towards becoming that person God created you to be and you wouldn't have any room for jealousy in your heart because you'd be content.

2. Brainstorm on new ways to become more intentional with your time and habit Eph5:15-17, Jere 1:5:

You know what they say about an idle mind being the devil's workshop? I dare say, the major reason you feel jealous is because there is no vision map for your life because there is no way you'd be intentional about yourself.

3. Identify your priorities and focus on your strength and work on them Matt 6:33: when you set your priorities right, you’d be so concentrated that distraction becomes impossible.

4. Understand that jealousy is a wasted emotion and it is destructive James 3:14-16: if you know how much jealousy would cost you, you wouldn't want to activate that emotion at all James 3:16 made it very clear “ For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.” Clear your heart of every envy and jealousy in order to strike a balance and live a fulfilled life.

5. Learn to be content, satisfied and grateful for what ever you have 1Tim 6:6-12: in my experience, I can tell you that the root of jealousy is discontentment, dissatisfaction and ingratitude . In order to cleanse your heart of jealousy, it is necessary to cultivate the habit of genuine gratefulness and satisfaction. All you have to do to do is express gratitude to God as Apostle Paul instructs in 1thes 5:18 “ In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”

6. Grow closer to God and become more assured of the potential He placed within you Heb 4:8: The Best way to deal with jealousy is to pray about it and as you constantly speak to God in prayers, you begin to conform to the image of Christ and when that happens jealousy will no longer dwell within your hearth.

If your jealousy is directed to a particular person or a group of people, make an effort to shower that person or people with love and pray for God’s blessings over them. When we bless others, it releases love in our hearts towards them. Luke 6:28 says “ bless those that curse you and pray for those that mistreat you.”

When we are jealous towards someone, we view them as someone who is cursing us so this same principle applies. Again it might feel imperfect at first but as you obey the scripture God will meet you in your act of obedience and change your heart.

Here’s one parting thought proverbs 14:30 says that “Envy rots the bones.”

More and more medical studies are proving that when we harbor ill will, it actually affects us physically. God is a loving father and He wants you to overcome this sin for His glory and for your own well-being and happiness.

I am Aghogho, known as Aghoghomusic. I am a wife, a mother, a human resources professional by training, I love maintaining relationships with people. I'm a lady with a heart for God who desires to give hope and inspiration.

How did you get saved?

My salvation experience was actually a re-dedication to God because before then I had given my life to christ severally as a small child who was naive. This time I was about thirteen.

You are a music minister, how did you get this far ?

I developed the love for singing at a tender age, then I got exposed to song writing in boarding House at secondary school. I also loved listening to gospel music growing up and these formed the desire in me to want to sing songs that offer hope and inspiration to people.

Did you ever feel you were not good enough at any point?

Yes because I heard a lot of people around me sing better than I could sing.

How would you describe your music genre or style?

I would say it's diverse at the moment.

What's your creative process like?

Usually I start with what I have within me, my thoughts, then I match them with what I have around me, then if I need resources outside my circle, I reach out for them.


Away from music, what else do you get up to?

Cooking, reading, checking up on people, spending quality time with friends and family.

The music industry is such a creative one,there's so much that can be done around music and gospel music in particular which is more powerful since we come from the stand point of the word of God.

In Nigeria, we could have better policies that favour artists, making them earn proper royalties on their songs. This would further encourage others who want to become artists as well.

Which do you consider your best track and why?

'Than before', my latest release.
There's a certain depth and connection that comes with the song, which I don't have in any of my other songs.

Oh yes, definitely, there's always something cooking when it comes to Aghoghomusic, there is so much in me for the world.

READERS DIGEST - PRAYER

Prayer is talking to God. Prayer is a communication between man and God, prayer is asking God to intervene in the affairs of man in a given situation on the basis of His word and our relationship with God. The Bible in (Luke 18:1B KJV) reminds us of the importance of prayer “… man ought always to pray and not to faint” Prayer is an exercise that should be carried out by every believer, although some miss the point because they have grown up to think that prayer is a mere religious act that is carried out just for the sake of praying.

We just don’t pray because our Lord Jesus said we should, there is more to prayer than just talking to God. Prayer is a fellowship, yes, we also need to understand that when we pray we penetrate the presence of God which strengthens our relationship with Him. Through prayer we can bring the word of God to pass in our lives, we can change things in our lives, our surroundings, our destinies and even in the lives of other people and so much more!

A lot of believers pray and among the number that pray , many don’t get answers to their prayers, this keeps us wondering. Now, from the word we see that our Lord Jesus Christ was a man of principles, so also was he a man of prayer. There are basic principles to follow in prayer that’s probably the reason why a lot of us feel our prayers don’t get answered…we are praying the wrong way! Jesus in Matthew 6:9 showed us a guideline to follow in prayer. “…our father, which art in heaven. Hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread…” 

We begin prayer by worshipping and praising God and then go forward to pray for His kingdom which is already on earth.

Praying in the name of Jesus;

“Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name; ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full. At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the father for you.” John 16:24, 26 KJV

In John 16:24-26 Jesus lets us that we are to pray to the father in  his name, that is we pray to God in the name of Jesus and not pray to God the father through the name of Jesus or pray to Jesus in the name of Jesus. As children of God who have already come to God through Christ, we have become part of Gods kingdom and are seated together with Christ in heavenly places, because we know and love God as He knows and loves us, Jesus does not need to intervene for us on His behalf. We have been granted the power to pray in the name of Jesus!

Heartfelt prayers are very important whether we are reciting prayers from a prayer book or not. God did not teach us to say our prayers but He commands us to pray.

“If my people, which are called by my name shall humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land” 2 Chronicles 7:14

We need to know God as our father and our friend, we need to know Him as someone who can be trusted and is closer than a friend. We need to know Him on a personal level. It’s just like this life instance, the way you communicate with a very close friend is different from the way you would communicate with a colleague or a formal acquaintance. Establishing such a relationship with God entails us talking to Him from our hearts.

Changing things through prayer;

“verily I say unto you, if ye have faith as a grain of a mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you” Matthew 17:20 KJV

Faith is a vital key in prayer, with faith impossibilities become possible. Faith is believing. The question is do you believe what Gods word says about you and your current circumstance? If yes, then put your faith to work in prayer and anything shall be POSSIBLE! 

“…if thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth” Mark 9:23

Power in the name of Jesus;

“Wherefore God hath highly exalted Him and given him a name which is above every other name. that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, things in earth and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the father” Philippians 2:9-11

The name of our Lord Jesus is not an ordinary name; it has power in heaven, in the earth, in hell and the grave. That is why we can command devils to flee in the name of Jesus and they flee, we can cast out devils and sickness and change anything at all because of the power in that name. The Lord Jesus himself has given us the authority to use the power in his name that is why we pray to father (ask the father anything) in the name of Jesus, when we pray in the name of Jesus heaven responds.

Praying kingdom advancement prayers; kingdom advancement prayer simply means prayer for the church, for souls and for preachers. When we base our prayers on this category great things happen. Our Lord Jesus in Matthew 6:33 advices us to seek the kingdom of God first and all our needs will be met. Some benefits that come with praying kingdom advancement prayers are; 

i) God supernaturally provides our needs. “But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you” Mathew 6:33 KJV.

ii) We enjoy prosperity when you put God’s kingdom first in prayer “And he said when I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye anything? And they said, nothing Luke 22:35. KJV

iii) When we put God and His Kingdom first in prayer we enjoy glory. “And out of them shall proceed thanksgiving and the voice of them, that make merry; and I will multiply them, and they shall not be few; I will also glorify them and they shall not be small. Their children also shall be as aforetime, and their congregation shall be established before me, and I will punish all that oppress them. And their nobles shall be of themselves, and their governor shall proceed from the midst of them, and I will cause him to draw near, and he shall approach unto me; for who is this that engaged his heart to approach unto me? Saith the LORD” Jeremiah 30:19-21

Today some people don’t bother praying, because they don’t expect answers when they pray. As a child of God when you pray, is it your right to expect answers except you are not born again. God wants us to pray, our prayers don’t bother him and He does not get confused because so many people are praying to Him at the same time.

The word says in the book of James 5:16, the B part of it that “the effective fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much” also …. Also let’s not forget in Luke 18:1, Jesus encourage us to pray.

It has little to do with the length of time we spend in prayer, one could engage in a faithless prayer for hours filled with vain repetitions and another would render a heartfelt prayer for just 5 minutes with a lot of impact.

My brothers and sisters in Christ, please pray! Pray to avert evil, pray to change circumstances, pray to fulfill God’s words in your life, pray knowing that God is always there to hear and answer our prayers. Remember what the word says in James 5:16, the B part of it “…the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much”

THE QUEEN'S BUSINESS SERIES: THE SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER

S.K Modupe's Apparel sat off the popular Dada Estate .Oluchi insisted her Aunt had made such a poor choice in location. "We would make twice our earnings if we were on the express Mami," she would say.

Modupe didn't think the same especially as her clothing store was the largest in Osogbo and women from all walks of life stopped by in numbers daily.

It was well stocked, its external finish with green carpets, bright artificial flowers of yellow and red, which Modupe had shopped from @jazzmakinteriors, gave her space the most elegant touch. The serene atmosphere that radiated within its walls gave the relaxing ambience that got high profile women in the Government stopping by as well. No one could ever guess Modupe, the plump dark-skinned Modupe who had never received Western education owned the most popular clothing store in Osogbo.

"Tonty tere, tonty four, tonty five.. oh!”

She dropped the bundle of Naira notes she had been counting, placed her hands beneath her jaw, staring angrily at the door now. She walked slowly it was typical of her , her weight could barely allow for swiftness.

“Kini problem?"she asked , facing Oluchi now who had blocked the entrance with her petite frame..

“Ma, the sanitizer,”Oluchi said, refusing to let the fair woman who had been standing a distance from the other waiting clients get in.

She bent to meet Modupe's gaze.

“Ah ah ah….. Mummy Ayo, ewole jare’

Modupe turned to face Oluchi with a silent stare that begged for reasons why she had not allowed.

“Venza" come in.

Modupe named her clients by the cars they drove and reserved their names for when she spoke to them in person if she wasn't tagging the married ones by the names of their children.

She had travelled the world, for business, vacations, without a degree, the kind Oluchi was here in Osogbo striving for.

Obafemi Awolowo University had closed down as a result of the pandemic that had ravaged the world.

The slender lady walked around the shop, piling clothes in her sizes on Modupe's glass table.

Oluchi feared the glass table would have it's parts littered all over if it had to bear one more stack of clothing,  but she had lived with Modupe long enough, since her husband's demise years ago to know she couldn't express such displeasure in the presence of a client, the ones who had their nose in the air and won't relate to Modupe if she wasn't the filthy rich business woman.

Oluchi began to pack the clothes into a branded bag that had Modupe's picture boldly above her brand name. Another poor choice Oluchi was weary of speaking of.

“More blessings, ese ma”, Modupe said, carrying her fifty year old frame to the door as she saw her client off.

“Oluchi, kini problem, Venza?"

“Ma, I asked her to sanitize and use her face mask before entering the shop”.

“But this is Venza, Venza don’t mix with common people”

“Ma,"  Oluchi called out pointing to   the " no mask,  no entry" signal on the doorpost.

Modupe hissed, walked to her desk and turned to Oluchi again.

“See, all these for the government, no Covid in Nigeria, only China, Italy, sun here, kill everything”, she said moving her index finger over her lips.

“Ma, this pandemic is real, alot of lives, lost!”.

Modupe looks away, she tries to imagine where to begin with convincing Oluchi who to her was just as stubborn as her younger sister  back in Onitsha. She shakes her head, pouts and resumes .

“Oluchi, bird flu come and go, ebola come and go, Covid-19 will go too’.

“Mami but simple things, sanitize, wash hands regularly, avoid contact”

“Your type cannot give husband peace. You argue  much. Anyway, if anything at all my anointing oil from Jerusalem, still remaining”

She says relaxing into her gold chairs and resumes her counting.

“Tonty tere, tonty four, tonty five..”

“But, Mami , faith without works is vain!”

Modupe stares spitefully and ignores Oluchi this time who sets out to get their lunch from @anikee.o She had barely gotten into a cab when she felt her phone vibrate in her denim skirt.

It was her mother she had began with the regular pleasantries and said so much about sending a dirty slap from Onitsha if she did not obey  her Madam who was responsible for her schooling.

Oluchi had said little lately, personally observing prevention procedures. Modupe would laugh loudly whenever she saw Oluchi  in the well fitted face mask made by @gabys_concept , when she sanitized her hands too. It was an outburst  that left Modupe almost choking on her way to Church when she found Modupe conducting Sunday School over her small laptop .

Oluchi was usually out before Modupe whose church was an hour farther, rising in the early hours had become a norm since she was appointed the new Sunday School Teacher at The Kingdom Campus Fellowship.

Modupe laughed off her feverish symptoms as well and couldn't hide her irritation when Oluchi had suggested she gets a proper check up at the hospital after she had complained incessantly of a headache that left her bed ridden.

“Fimi le jare," Modupe snapped, sweating profusely. 

She  found Modupe's lifeless body on her bed when she  checked on her in the middle of the night.

She had cried her eyes out even at the isolation centre.

“Negative”

The NCDC official said to her after series of questions that had him placing a thermometer close to her forehead.

It was an ugly feeling, a subdued joy that engulfed her as she left the isolation centre days later.

‘Mama, we are leaving now," Oluchi said over the phone as the driver started the bus.

"Iji mask?"

‘Yes mama’

‘Chukwu gozie gi’, her mother prayed as she journeyed to Onitsha immediately the interstate lockdown was relaxed, she would tell of her last moments with Modupe and how she was laid to rest in Osogbo, she knew her mother would weep so bad, it would break her.
